On Sunday, July 28, Harav Malkiel Kotler, shlit"a, Rosh Yeshivah of Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood, and his Rebbetzin, paid a memorable visit to Camp HASC. Rav Kotler arrived at the camp, where he was greeted by Mr. Shmiel Kahn, director of Camp HASC, Mr. Abe Eisner, president of the board of HASC Center, and Rabbi Gedaliah Weinberger, noted askan. Upon arriving at the camp’s beis medrash, Rav Kotler was greeted by many campers and counselors. The campers from Lakewood were especially excited to meet their community’s Rosh Yeshivah. Following the kabbalas panim in the beis medrash, Rav Kotler took a tour of the camp, including the beis refuah (medical center) and large dining room and kitchen. Rav Kotler was in awe of the expansive, state-of-the-art facility, and commented that although he had often heard about Camp HASC, he had never realized the extent to which the counselors give of themselves to the campers on a daily basis, for the entire summer. Specifically, he noticed how hard some counselors workj ust to get a smile from their camper, as if the camper was their own child. He also remarked that he can only imagine how much this two-month recharge benefits the parents of the special-needs campers.
